He stopped running for a moment, now as lost as he had ever been in the city of his birth. He looked around him, but other than the streets being in better repair than the others, he could not for the want of him, decide where he was. It was most disconcerting, for though he did not have any of the Black Knights on his tail, he could not even begin to return to where he was to restart the search for the boy-child, who had almost certainly run from the threat that those Black Knights had represented, if he had not done so earlier.
Thiar had seen the child now, and would be eagerly explaining what he looked like to every Eshe and Blacthe Seven Rings 9 by *TeaPartyRevolution

He had been horrified when he had come out of the house to be faced with Thiar - it was almost an echo of the time that he had been forced to face the Black Knight before. But this time, he swore silently, he was going to come out the victor, not the Black Knight.
As he pulled out his sword, he yelled at the boy to run, since if the battle did not go according to plan, which he knew it would, he did not wish the child to be in the clutches of the Black Knights and subsequently the Seven Rings. And that, if the worst came to pass, which he was going to attempt to stop, would mean that all hope would be lost and he might as well just the Seven Rings 8 by *TeaPartyRevolution

Darkness had fallen. The sun had disappeared over the back of the city and the Black Knights had left, Zajak got up from his hiding place and went carefully and slowly through the streets, past the corpses, towards that solitary chimney.
He had miscalculated, he had thought that the Eshe had left with the Black Knights, but he was wrong. There were three still there, standing guard over the site. Pausing, he was struck by indecision. Maybe he shouldn't fight those Eshe, not go up the stairs to save the person up there. Maybe it wasn't the thing to do. What if there were more of them around?
